Pandemic-EBT Benefits for Families:
Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may be eligible for Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) to purchase food for days they are not in the school building. To be considered, households must submit an application for free or reduced-price meals for the 2020-21 school year or be approved for Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Families who received P-EBT benefits last summer are not automatically eligible; eligibility is based on the current school year. Benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-price meals is determined. To ensure you qualify for the most benefits, please submit your application as soon as possible.  Details of the program will be shared once the State gives us more information on the program.

Free meals are available for all ZM students daily through a state of Minnesota waiver. This program is also open to all children ages 0-18 in our communities and is like the Grab 'n Go program that ran this past summer. ZM requests that distance learning students complete the required form to order meals also. Students currently in school, including hybrid students, are already covered under the free meal program. However, for the days they are learning at home, they can receive meals by mailing Amy Jensen at or calling her at 507-732-7848 ext. 1102.

To order breakfast and lunch for the week, parents/guardians should complete and submit the order form each Monday by 8:00 a.m. (The kitchen requests that you do not fill out the form for the next week's meals until after meal pick up on Wednesday). Meals will be available for pick up by an adult or child/student between 1:30-2:00 p.m. each Wednesday at Door 1 in Mazeppa or the Primary School door in Zumbrota. It is important that the meals are picked up promptly between the required time frame.

It is still important that parents who feel they qualify for free or reduced meals complete the Application for Educational Benefits (free/reduced form) to ensure that when the free meal funds are exhausted, their child/children will be automatically eligible for free or reduced meals, depending upon application approval. Schools depend upon the dollars generated through the free/reduced meal program to fund programs such as Title I, credit recovery, paraprofessional support, etc.
