Screenings

Department Page: Welcome to Health Services
Hearing and Vision Screenings: These screenings are done for 1st, 3rd, and 5th, and 7th grades with the help of volunteers. Rescreens are done by a School Nurse. Letters are sent home for students who need further evaluation. The school nurse will screen children throughout the school year if referred by staff or parents. If you prefer your child not be screened, notify the school nurse.

Early Childhood Screenings: The Licensed School Nurse does the assessment, including health history, immunizations, and assists with hearing and vision.

Scoliosis screenings: These screenings are done in the fall for 5th grade girls and in the spring for 6th grade girls. They are done to identify female students who might have an abnormal curve of the spine (scoliosis).
Studies estimate that two to five of every 100 children develop scoliosis, and some require treatment. Early detection and treatment help prevent or minimize the development of severe spinal problems.
